The Launch of a New Proposal for Men’s and Women’s European Competitions
After the European Court of Justice ruled that banning clubs from joining a European Super League was unlawful, A22, the company that backed the league, has introduced a new proposal for men’s and women’s European competitions.
A League System Based on Sporting Merit
The proposed league system would consist of 64 men’s clubs across three leagues, with participation based on sporting merit and no permanent members. Additionally, the women’s competition would include 32 clubs across two leagues.
European Court of Justice Ruling
The European Court of Justice’s ruling against Uefa and Fifa for breaking competition law by threatening to sanction clubs that joined the breakaway league has opened the door for new proposals and the organization of European football competitions.
Promotion and Relegation System
The A22 proposal includes an annual promotion and relegation system. While no clubs or prize money have been announced yet, the men’s competition would have the Star League and the Gold League as the top tiers with 16 teams each, while the Blue League, consisting of 32 clubs, would be the bottom tier.
Free Live Streaming for Fans
Fans would have the opportunity to watch live matches for free on a new digital streaming platform.
