Mykhailo Mudryk Thanks Chelsea Fans After Difficult Performance
Mykhailo Mudryk has thanked Chelsea fans for their support and insists he will prove successful despite another difficult performance for the Blues. The Ukraine international was introduced at half-time of Sunday’s 3-1 defeat away to West Ham in place of goalscorer Carney Chukwuemeka, who was forced off with a knee injury and was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches.
But Mudryk struggled to have the same impact on the match as the teenager and only had 28 touches of the ball – the same amount as goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. He was mocked on social media for one particularly bad effort on goal, when he skewed a close-range volley so horribly it landed outside the box, while he also slipped over when he had a great chance to get a shot off.
Mudryk, who cost £85million in January, is still waiting for his first goal for Chelsea but the 22-year-old remains adamant he will come good eventually.
‘Guys, I just wanna say that I appreciate your support,’ wrote the winger on Instagram on Monday afternoon. ‘We’re going with y’all in one boat, we lose together and we win together, and my success will be yours as well.’
Manager Mauricio Pochettino also leapt to the defence of Mudryk after his difficult cameo against West Ham and believes the Ukrainian will eventually deliver on his enormous potential. Asked about Mudryk’s performance on Sunday, and what is going wrong for him, Pochettino said: ‘Well I think he needs to be more in the spirit to score. But normally, today he played 45 minutes, he needs to have continuity. But first of all he needs to build his continuity and trust during the trainings during the week.
‘He’s a young player that needs to be trusted, we need to trust in him to create this relationship with us and with the team. He has enormous quality and talent, I think it’s only [a matter of] time for him to settle better in the team and for sure he will find the way to perform in the way that we expect.’
On Chukwuemeka’s injury, Pochettino added: ‘With Carney we need to assess him. We’ll see tomorrow the assessment from the doctors and hope it is not a big issue, but we need to wait.’
Mykhailo Mudryk’s Struggles at Chelsea
Mykhailo Mudryk has had a difficult start to life at Chelsea since joining from Dynamo Kyiv in January for an eye-watering £85million fee. The 22-year-old winger has failed to make an impact so far and was mocked on social media for his performance in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat away to West Ham.
Mudryk only had 28 touches of the ball during his 45-minute cameo at the London Stadium – the same amount as goalkeeper Robert Sanchez – and was unable to make any real impact on the game. He was also guilty of a particularly bad effort on goal, when he skewed a close-range volley so horribly it landed outside the box, while he also slipped over when he had a great chance to get a shot off.
Despite his struggles, Mudryk remains adamant that he will come good eventually and thanked Chelsea fans for their support. ‘Guys, I just wanna say that I appreciate your support,’ wrote the winger on Instagram on Monday afternoon. ‘We’re going with y’all in one boat, we lose together and we win together, and my success will be yours as well.’
