West Ham boss David Moyes faces mounting pressure as the team remains winless in 2024 after a defeat against Nottingham Forest. The Hammers lost 2-0 at the City Ground on Sunday, extending their disastrous run of form this year.
The team’s struggles have been evident in their performance throughout the season, with West Ham yet to secure a victory in eight matches across all competitions. This concerning statistic has seen them drop down to eighth place in the Premier League table.
Adding to their woes, West Ham has failed to find the back of the net in their last three consecutive top-flight defeats. In contrast, they have conceded a total of 11 goals, leaving fans frustrated and demanding change.
During the match against Nottingham Forest, traveling supporters held up banners calling for Moyes’ sacking. The disgruntled fans made their dissatisfaction known, but Moyes was quick to defend his position and remind them of the success he has brought to the club.
In his post-match press conference, the 60-year-old manager addressed the fans’ discontent, stating, “I’m pretty long in the tooth, it happens, and I don’t think you can please everybody. I think it would be hard to say there have been many better times at West Ham.”
Moyes highlighted the team’s recent achievements, including winning a trophy and securing strong league positions. He acknowledged that some fans may want a more exciting style of play but emphasized that he is a manager who consistently delivers results.
“This year already we have beaten Tottenham, Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal,” Moyes added. “We must not forget there were good times not so long ago.”
The West Ham manager also pointed out some mitigating circumstances that have affected the team’s performance. He mentioned players being absent due to the African Cup of Nations and injuries to key players like Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta.
Despite Moyes’ previous success and the challenging circumstances faced by the team, his future at West Ham remains uncertain. TalkSPORT reported in December that he was close to agreeing on a new two-and-a-half-year contract, but following their recent 6-0 defeat to Arsenal, his position is now in fresh doubt.
As the pressure mounts, West Ham will need to find a way to turn their fortunes around and secure a much-needed victory. With the fans’ frustrations growing, Moyes will have to find a solution to get his team back on track and silence the critics.
