Salah’s Uncertain Future at Liverpool
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has revealed that he believes this will be his “last year” at the club, as nobody has approached him about a new contract. Salah’s current deal at Anfield is set to expire next summer, leaving his future with the Reds in doubt.
During Liverpool’s impressive 3-0 win against Manchester United, Salah scored a goal and later expressed his sentiments about potentially leaving the club. In an interview with Sky Sports, he admitted that he treated the game as if it were his last at Old Trafford. “Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts, so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season,'” Salah said. “I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”
Salah’s comments have raised questions about his long-term commitment to Liverpool. However, manager Arne Slot downplayed the situation, stating, “At this moment, he is one of ours, and I am really happy with him being one of ours. I don’t talk about contracts from players, but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.”
This uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future comes after he signed a new three-year deal with Liverpool in July 2022, making him the highest-paid player in the club’s history. The Egyptian forward earns over £350,000 per week. Additionally, Liverpool rejected a £150m offer from Al-Ittihad for Salah last September, indicating the club’s desire to keep hold of him.
Despite the speculation, Salah continues to deliver on the pitch. He has scored in each of Liverpool’s opening three games this season, including the record-breaking victory against Manchester United. Salah has been directly involved in 17 of Liverpool’s last 23 Premier League goals against Manchester United, either scoring or assisting. This makes him the player with the most goal involvements against the Red Devils in the competition.
Furthermore, Salah’s performance at Old Trafford was exceptional. He has scored 10 goals in nine appearances at the stadium for Liverpool in all competitions, making him the second player since 1992-93 to achieve this feat at a single away ground in the Premier League. The only other player to do so is Alan Shearer, who scored 10 goals at Elland Road.
Salah also became the first player to score in five consecutive away appearances against Manchester United in the Premier League. These achievements highlight his importance to Liverpool’s success and further emphasize the potential loss the club could face if he were to leave.
Liverpool’s victory against Manchester United propelled them to second place in the Premier League table, behind leaders Manchester City on goal difference. Salah expressed his satisfaction with the result and emphasized the team’s determination to fight for the league title. “If you want to fight for the league, you have to win each game,” Salah said. “We managed to use a couple of mistakes from the opposition, which was part of the plan. We pressed high, just as Jurgen Klopp wants us to, and it paid off.”
As Salah’s future at Liverpool hangs in the balance, fans and pundits alike will be eagerly awaiting any further developments. The club will undoubtedly want to secure his services for the long term, while Salah himself may be considering his options. Only time will tell what lies ahead for one of Liverpool’s most prolific and influential players.
