Mo Salah Injured in Egypt’s Game Against Ghana
Egypt’s captain, Mo Salah, suffered an injury and had to be substituted during their match against Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday night. The 31-year-old forward appeared to have a hamstring issue, which could potentially rule him out for the rest of the tournament.
Salah limped off the pitch just before half time, visibly frustrated and disappointed. He sat on the bench, receiving support from his teammates.
Unfortunately for Egypt, things took a turn for the worse after Salah’s injury, as they conceded a goal from Mohammed Kudus in first half stoppage time. A defeat in this match would greatly diminish their chances of progressing from the group stage.

Potential Impact on Liverpool
Liverpool is already dealing with multiple injuries, and Salah’s absence adds to their concerns. Along with Wataru Endo, who is also away on international duty, Salah’s hamstring strain will determine the length of his potential absence. A grade 1 injury typically takes a few days to heal, while a more severe strain could require up to eight weeks of recovery time.
Considering Egypt’s final group game is in four days, it seems optimistic for Salah to make a quick return. However, from a Liverpool perspective, his absence may not affect their domestic games more than if he had reached the Afcon final.
If Salah is sidelined for the typical three weeks required for a mild strain, he would miss Liverpool’s matches against Bournemouth, Fulham, Norwich, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Burnley. Coincidentally, this aligns with the remaining duration of the Afcon tournament.
It’s worth noting that Salah has a relatively good injury record. His last injury was in November 2019 when he suffered an ankle issue while playing for Egypt. The last time he missed a Liverpool game due to injury was in October 2019. Throughout his six and a half years at the club, he has only missed three games due to injury.
