Mohamed Salah Breaks Thierry Henry’s Record With 43rd Goal in Europe for Liverpool
Mohamed Salah’s goal in Liverpool’s latest Europa League win saw him break a record set by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in 2006.
Liverpool thrashed Toulouse 5-1 at Anfield on Thursday night thanks to goals from Diego Jota, Wataru Endo, Darwin Nunez, Ryan Gravenberch and Salah.
The Egyptian winger came on with around 20 minutes left and found the back of the net with a sublime strike in the 93rd minute.
Salah Breaks Henry’s Record
It was his 43rd goal in major European competitions for the Reds, the most that has ever been scored by any player for an English club.
41 of those came in the Champions League, with the other two scored this season in the Europa League.
It surpasses Henry’s tally of 42 while at Arsenal – 35 in the Champions League and seven in the UEFA Cup.
It is yet another incredible record that Salah can add to his collection that includes: Most Champions League goals for an English club, Most goals scored in UEFA club competitions by an African player, and Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League and Europe.
Klopp Reacts to Win
‘It’s really easy to fall in love with this team because there is a lot of excitement there,’ Reds manager Jurgen Klopp said after the Toulouse win.
‘You saw in the moments where it was difficult. Most of the time we were in complete control.
‘We made good goals, nobody got hurt, perfect night. We could bring the kids on.’
Liverpool Top Group E
Liverpool have won all three of their Europa League games this season and are five points clear at the top of Group E ahead of Union Saint-Gilloise, Toulouse and LASK.
Salah will have the first chance to extend his record tally when they travel to the French side on 9th November.
Before then, he’ll be hoping to keep Liverpool’s great start to the Premier League season going on Sunday when they host Nottingham Forest.
