The MLS has released its list of top earners, and a former Liverpool star has claimed the number one spot. Xherdan Shaqiri, who has also played for Bayern Munich and Stoke, earns a guaranteed £6.53 million for Chicago Fire in 2023, making him the highest-paid player in the league. Lorenzo Insigne, who left Napoli for Toronto in 2022, is the second-highest earner with a base salary of £6 million per year. Former Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez is third on the list, earning £5.97 million at LA Galaxy. Federico Bernardeschi, who joined Toronto last summer, will earn £5 million per year, while Sebastian Druissi of Austin FC completes the top five with his £4.8 million annual deal. Hector Herrera, who previously starred for Porto and Atletico Madrid in Europe, now plays for Houston Dynamo and earns £3.35 million per year. Other notable names on the list include Douglas Costa, Luiz Araujo, and Christian Benteke, who left Crystal Palace to join DC United in 2022.
