Mikey Moore, a highly-rated prospect in Tottenham Hotspur’s academy, made headlines in May 2024 when he became the youngest player in the club’s history to make a Premier League appearance. At just 16 years, nine months, and three days old, he broke the previous record held by his teammate Dane Scarlett. Moore’s achievement came in a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.
But Moore’s success didn’t stop there. He also played a significant role for England at the Under-17 European Championship. During the group stages, he scored four goals, including a stunning solo effort against France. Although England was eventually knocked out in the quarter-finals on penalties, Moore’s performances caught the attention of many.
Born in Southwark and attending Strood Academy in Kent, Moore joined Spurs at the age of eight and has since been on a rapid rise through their academy. He is known for his versatility but is most dangerous when cutting inside from the left wing onto his stronger right foot. Moore’s close control and ability to lure defenders into rash challenges have earned him praise.
One of Moore’s standout moments came in November 2022 when he represented England’s under-16s at the Football Federations Cup in Alicante, Spain. In a game against Germany, he scored two goals off the bench, showcasing his intelligence and skill. The first goal involved a quick free-kick followed by a slalom past four defenders and a chipped finish. The second goal saw him drive into the box and slot the ball into the far corner from a tight angle.
Coaches who have worked with Moore describe him as an “exciting player” with “lovely, easy movement.” They believe he has the potential to break into the first team. Since his breakout moment, Moore has continued to impress, scoring twice in the Under-17 Premier League Cup final and becoming the youngest player to feature for Spurs’ under-21s. He has also trained with the first team and signed a long-term deal with the club.
In the Under-18 Premier League this season, Moore has been in excellent form, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists in just 12 appearances. His standout performances include hat-tricks against Norwich and Southampton and a pivotal contribution in a comeback win against Chelsea.
Despite his progress, it is important to temper expectations and allow Moore time to develop. Many young players show flashes of potential but struggle to maintain consistency. However, those who know Moore describe him as down-to-earth and hard-working.
Academy director Simon Davies will ultimately decide Moore’s next steps. Options include staying with the Under-18s, a permanent promotion to the first-team squad, or a loan move. The upcoming pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea could provide valuable experience for the teenager.
For now, Moore’s focus remains on the Under-17 European Championship with England. His performances have only enhanced his reputation, and his presence as a forward who can dictate attacks and create chances has been widely recognized. Spurs fans are understandably excited about his potential, and although patience is required, Moore’s journey is one to watch closely.
