Mikel Arteta confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli is wearing a protective boot and is set for a scan on an injury that forced him out of Arsenal’s defeat to Brighton on Sunday night. The Brazilian was forced off 20 minutes into the match after a heavy challenge from Moises Caicedo, leaving Arteta with an added headache. Arteta said of the extent of the problem: ‘We don’t know. He’s in a boot at the moment. It was very uncomfortable for him to walk, he couldn’t carry on playing – so obviously we need to scan him and see the extent of that injury.’
The Gunners’ 3-0 loss to Brighton ended any realistic chance of winning the Premier League title this season, leaving Arteta with a feeling of frustration. He said: ‘At the moment it’s just frustration. The feeling that we gave the game away second half. We fought really hard to be in the position that we are in. Today we were in a critical moment to keeping hoping for that dream.’ For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
