Arsenal confirm Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey injury setbacks
Arsenal have been dealt a double injury blow with Mikel Arteta confirming Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey are set to miss a couple of weeks with muscle injuries.
The Brazil international took the man of the match honours in midweek with his best play of the season so far, scoring and assisting in a vital Champions League win at Sevilla. However, Jesus limped off during the closing stages with what appeared to be a hamstring injury that had rendered him a doubt for tomorrow’s game against struggling Sheffield United.
Asked for an update on the Arsenal No.9 Mikel Arteta said: ‘The scan showed there is a muscle injury and we might lose him for a few weeks again. With Gabi I cannot give you any timeframe because he always surprises us. He had quite a lot of load in the last few weeks with the national team and those games which he hasn’t had for a long, long time. It’s bad news for us.’
Thomas Partey suffers another injury setback
Arsenal are also likely to be without the services of Thomas Partey until after Novembers’ international break after the experienced midfielder suffered yet another setback.
Partey picked up a muscle strain in training prior to the midweek trip to Spain and tests confirmed yet more bad news for the former Atletico Madrid star.
‘He has got a muscle injury,’ confirmed Arteta. ‘We expect him to be out for a few weeks. He has more tests today. He picked it up in the last training session, the last kick of the ball, before Sevilla.’
Arsenal’s Injury Crisis
The double injury blow comes at a bad time for Arsenal who are already without the services of Kieran Tierney, David Luiz, Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari and Martin Odegaard.
The Gunners have been able to cope with their injury crisis so far this season but will now have to rely on their squad depth if they are to maintain their good start to the season.
Arsenal face a tough run of fixtures over the coming weeks and will need to find a way to cope without two of their key players if they are to remain in contention for a top four finish.
