Mikel Arteta hints Gabriel Jesus is ready to start for Arsenal against Fulham

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that Gabriel Jesus is ready to go straight back into the starting line-up for Saturday’s London derby against Fulham. The Brazil international missed three months last season after undergoing knee surgery and there were fears he would face an extended period out of action after he underwent a minor operation last month.

Jesus didn’t feature in the Community Shield against his former club Manchester City and was absent from his side’s Premier League victories against Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.

The Gunners will look to extend their 100% start to the new campaign against the Cottagers and will be boosted by the presence of Jesus who returned to first team training on Thursday.

Arteta Confirms Jesus is Ready to Play

‘Yes, I am really happy,’ said Arteta at his pre-match press conference when asked if he was relieved he would be able to call upon the services of his No.9 again. ‘It was a big blow after pre-season. He is looking really sharp and ready to go.’

Pressed as to whether Jesus could go straight back into the starting line-up, he emphasised: ‘Yes, he is back. He is ready to go. (From the start) We’ll see.’

Fulham Looking to Bounce Back

Despite their excellent recent record against Fulham, meanwhile, Arteta insists he will be taking nothing for granted against Marco Silva’s side who are nursing their wounds after last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat against Brentford.

He said: ‘I think what the coaching staff have done is remarkable. The way they played and qualified in the Premier League [Last season] is incredible he [Marco Silva] is really well organised and clear with his ideas and you can see what he wants to do.

‘It is a team that creates a lot of challenges and difficulties it, happened last year. We had top moments against them, but tomorrow I am expecting something similar.’
