Messi’s announcement boosts Inter Miami ticket prices and social media presence

Date:

Lionel Messi’s decision to sign for David Beckham’s Major League Soccer club, Inter Miami, has already had a significant impact on the team. Despite his deal not yet being finalised, the club has seen a 1000% increase in ticket prices overall in the hours after the announcement, with the average home game ticket price jumping from $152 at the start of the season to $935. Fans have not been deterred by the price increase, with Messi’s apparent debut versus Cruz Azul on July 21 selling out in minutes. The surge in interest from the public has been felt throughout the MLS, too. Inter Miami’s increase in support has translated online, with the club’s Instagram following jumping from one million followers to 5.4 million, and their Twitter account also seeing a big increase.
