Mauricio Pochettino Confirms Chelsea Are ‘Working’ On Signing Midfielder

Chelsea have been forced into a clearout after spending £600m across the last two windows, and manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that they must reinforce the area after the departures of Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount.

The Blues had been confident of signing Brighton star Moises Caicedo, but they’ve had one bid turned down for the 21-year-old. That offer was thought to be around £65m, but Brighton are seeking around £100m for the Ecuador ace.

They feel this is a fair price given Declan Rice’s £105m move to Arsenal, and Caicedo is three years younger than the Englishman.

Pochettino Wants At Least One More Midfielder

Pochettino is making no secret of his desire to sign a midfielder and the Argentine says at least one must arrive before the end of the window.

Asked about signing a midfielder and the speculation surrounding Conor Gallagher, Pochettino said: “At the moment, we are working to reinforce that area, and other areas also. I think the players that are here on the tour are in our plans, Chelsea plans. At the moment, nothing to say about the players we have here. We are working very hard to try to add more players in different areas and hope that is possible soon.”

“It depends on the situation of different players. We need at least one more and we are working on that. It depends on what happens in the next few weeks. We will decide and take our decision.”

On signing a midfielder, Pochettino said: “That is the idea. We are working, the club is working on that. We need to add some player there. We need one more with experience.”

What Does This Mean For Chelsea?

Chelsea have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks, including Declan Rice, Thiago Alcantara and Kai Havertz. However, it remains to be seen who they will sign before the end of the transfer window.

The club have already signed Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr this summer, but they are still in need of reinforcements in midfield. With Pochettino confirming that they are “working” on signing a midfielder, it looks like they could be close to making a move for one of their targets.

Conclusion

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Chelsea are “working” on signing a midfielder before the end of the transfer window. The club have already been linked with a number of players in recent weeks, and it looks like they could be close to making a move for one of their targets.
