Mauricio Pochettino left annoyed by Moises Caicedo and Thiago Silva after Chelsea’s defeat to Nottingham Forest
Mauricio Pochettino was left frustrated after Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with the manager blaming the loss on a mistake from Moises Caicedo and Thiago Silva.
Anthony Elanga scored the only goal of the match, capitalizing on a poor touch from Caicedo in his own half which allowed Taiwo Awoniyi to burst forward and play a pass through to Elanga – with the ball going in between Silva’s legs – before the Swedish star fired home.
‘We made one mistake and we cannot make it,’ Pochettino said. ‘That is why we feel really disappointed. Football is about not making mistakes. We made one mistake and we paid for that.’
Chelsea’s Lack of Clinicality
Pochettino also highlighted that Chelsea were not clinical enough and bemoaned his side’s lack of goals.
‘We created many chances but we did not score,’ he added. ‘This Premier League is really competitive if you don’t score it is difficult to win. They didn’t create many chances. We conceded because of our mistake. Disappointed because it was a game that should be a win but we need to be more clinical in front of the goal. We didn’t score and that is why we didn’t win.’
Conclusion
The loss to Nottingham Forest was a major setback for Chelsea, who had been in good form prior to the match. The Blues will need to learn from their mistakes and be more clinical in front of goal if they are to have any chance of competing for the Premier League title this season.
Mauricio Pochettino will hope that his side can bounce back from this defeat and continue their impressive form as they look to challenge for the top four and beyond.
