Matthijs de Ligt’s Message to Manchester United for Summer Transfer

Matthijs de Ligt has distanced himself from speculation of a possible move to Manchester United in the summer, insisting he is ‘very happy’ at Bayern Munich and ‘not thinking’ about the future. The Dutchman joined Bayern from Juventus in a deal worth around £65 million in 2022 after winning several titles in Italy. However, recent reports suggest that De Ligt could be deemed surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena due to form and fitness issues.

Erik ten Hag, who previously managed De Ligt at Ajax, attempted to bring the defender to Old Trafford in 2022, but he chose Bayern instead. With United preparing to overhaul their defensive options, De Ligt has been identified as a top target at centre-back. However, the Netherlands international is not considering a summer switch at the moment.

De Ligt expressed his happiness at Bayern Munich and his desire to play despite facing challenges this season. The defender is tied into a deal with Bayern until 2027 and remains focused on performing well for his current club.

Speaking to Betfred in January, former United striker Andy Cole warned against signing another of Ten Hag’s former players, questioning their success in the Premier League. Cole suggested that United should cast their net wider when it comes to transfers. With uncertainties surrounding United’s current defensive options, the club may need to explore alternatives to De Ligt for the upcoming transfer window.

As De Ligt continues to focus on his performances at Bayern Munich, the speculation surrounding his potential move to Manchester United remains uncertain. Only time will tell if the Dutch defender will make a switch to the Premier League in the future.
