Joel Matip Set to Miss Rest of Liverpool Season Due to Serious Knee Injury
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that defender Joel Matip is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a serious knee injury.
Following Liverpool’s 2-0 victory against Sheffield United on Wednesday, Klopp revealed that the 32-year-old Cameroon defender has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Matip, who is in the final year of his contract with the club, joined Liverpool from German side Schalke seven years ago and has made 201 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals.
“It’s what I unfortunately expected from the first second,” said Klopp. “Everything looked like that. It’s very unfortunate.”
