Nemanja Matic Addresses Transfer Speculation and Personal Matters
Nemanja Matic, the former Manchester United star, has broken his silence after reports of him going on strike at Stade Rennais. Matic, who joined Rennes last summer from Roma, is reportedly unhappy and eager to leave the Ligue Un club.
The midfielder reportedly wants to return to the Premier League and is even considering retirement if his immediate transfer exit gets blocked. However, Matic has denied the allegations of going on strike to force a move. He clarified that he was dealing with a personal matter.
In a statement on Instagram, Matic said, “Dear supporters, I want to end any speculation and say that last summer I was honored by Stade Rennais’ invitation to be part of an ambitious project that needed a player of my characteristics and experience.”
He further added, “After six months at the club, I can confirm that our club has become an exceptional place for all players, especially the young ones. Unfortunately, due to my mistake, I was unable to align my personal matters with my professional commitments. I couldn’t enroll my children in the international school they have been attending since the beginning of their schooling.”
Matic was recently seen at a train station, following weeks of tension with club chiefs. Reports suggest that he has had difficulties in bonding with his teammates and has faced complications regarding his children’s schooling.
Rennes confirmed that Matic failed to attend the team’s latest training session, describing his behavior as “wholly incomprehensible.”
Matic concluded his statement by saying, “That is why I was away for the last three days, trying to solve this significant problem for me and my family. Tomorrow, I’m going back to Rennes where I will discuss the next steps with the club.”
