Mason Mount appeared emotional as he made his way around the Stamford Bridge pitch for what could be the final time on Sunday. The England playmaker was ruled out of the final day against Newcastle through injury but he participated in the lap of honour following the 1-1 draw. Mount’s future has come under increased scrutiny in the last fortnight, with Manchester United said to be leading the race for the midfielder. The 24-year-old has a year left on his deal at Stamford Bridge and he’s rejected the club’s last two proposals, feeling that the offers are well below what other players are receiving. There is a feeling from Chelsea’s side that selling the academy product could significantly ease their Financial Fair Play worries, and Mount is now said to be leaning towards moving to Old Trafford. He was comforted by Frank Lampard as he took in the applause of those that remained in the stadium after the draw against the Magpies, with Conor Gallagher and Ben Chilwell both putting their arm around Mount. In a further twist, Mount made his way back out to the Stamford Bridge pitch once the fans had exited, possibly wanting to take in his surroundings for a final time given he came through the academy and dreamed of playing at Stamford Bridge as a Chelsea player.
