Marcus Rashford Hopes to Recover from Norovirus for Manchester United’s Match Against Liverpool
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has been dealing with norovirus this week but is expected to be fit for their upcoming match against Liverpool on Sunday. The 26-year-old missed the Champions League game against Bayern Munich due to illness. The Daily Mail reported that Rashford has been struggling with norovirus, also known as the winter vomiting bug.
Return to Training
Rashford returned to training on Friday, and manager Erik ten Hag expressed his expectation that the forward will be available for the Liverpool match. However, his participation will depend on whether he experiences any ill-effects from the training session. Manchester United’s medical staff confirmed that Rashford was not infectious before allowing him to resume training.
Injury Update
Ten Hag also provided updates on other players’ injuries. He stated that Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial will miss the Liverpool clash due to injury. However, he expects Rashford and Luke Shaw to be available for selection. Ten Hag mentioned that Maguire’s injury is not long-term.
With Maguire out, there may be changes in the defensive lineup. Lisandro Martinez is still sidelined, so it is possible that Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane will play at center-back. Alternatively, Shaw could move to the center of defense, with Diogo Dalot at left-back and Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the right.
