Marcus Rashford to Miss Man Utd’s Europa League Match with Sevilla Due to Groin Injury Scans

Date:

On Monday, Manchester United will receive an update on Marcus Rashford’s injury. The team’s top scorer, with 28 goals, was forced to leave the pitch towards the end of their 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday due to a suspected groin injury. While it is likely that Rashford will miss Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla at Old Trafford, there are fears that he could be out for several weeks.

During his 350th appearance for the club, Rashford pulled up as he stretched to reach a pass from Christian Eriksen. He immediately signaled to the bench that he needed to come off and was replaced in the 81st minute. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was clearly concerned after the game, stating that “We have to wait. He doesn’t look well.” The Dutchman blamed the injury on United’s fixture schedule, expressing his unhappiness that the Red Devils played late afternoon last Sunday at Newcastle, midweek against Brentford, and were chosen for the 12.30pm kick-off on Saturday.

Ten Hag went on to say that “This was avoidable. All science and research tell you players need a certain time to recover. It is also part of the schedule that we are now finding ourselves in this situation and now we can only pray he is not dropping off.” Rashford has played 52 games this season for club and country. He recently pulled out of the England squad for their Euros double header against Italy and Ukraine with a knock. During that time, he went on a break to New York, which Ten Hag said was good for him to turn off totally from football for a while.

If Rashford is sidelined for a number of weeks, it will put extra emphasis on Anthony Martial, who has just returned from injury. He came on as a sub for a third game in a row on Saturday and got his first goal since February 1.

In conclusion, Manchester United will be anxiously awaiting the results of Marcus Rashford’s injury assessment on Monday. With the team’s top scorer potentially out for several weeks, it will be up to Anthony Martial to step up and fill the void. The injury has been blamed on United’s fixture schedule, with Erik ten Hag expressing his unhappiness with the team’s recent run of games. While Rashford’s absence will be a blow to the team, they will need to regroup and focus on their upcoming Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla.
