Marcus Rashford names toughest opponent and best player in the Premier League
Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford has named the best player in the Premier League and revealed his toughest opponent.
Rashford has made 239 Premier League appearances since making his debut for United in 2016, and has also earned more than 50 caps for England, playing in a European Championship final and World Cup semi-final.
The 25-year-old bagged 30 goals in all competitions last season to take his overall Manchester United tally to 123 – the 11th most in history.
Rashford’s Toughest Opponent
Despite developing into one of United’s most prolific goalscorers, Rashford admits he ‘always has a tough day’ against Kyle Walker and named the Manchester City defender as his toughest opponent.
‘I would probably say Kyle Walker,’ Rashford told Old Trafford legend Gary Neville when posed the question in an interview on The Overlap. ‘His physical capabilities are just unbelievable so it’s always going to be a tough day against him. You need to try and catch him off guard or in the wrong positions but even then he can recover so it’s always a difficult game against Kyle.’
Best Player in the Premier League
Rashford also reserved praise for two of Walker’s Manchester City team-mates, describing Erling Haaland as the best player in the Premier League last season and Kevin de Bruyne as the outstanding player in recent years.
In his first season in England, Haaland scored a staggering 52 goals in 53 games to help Man City win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in a historic treble.
‘Last season it was definitely Haaland,’ Rashford said when asked to name the best player in the Premier League. ‘But over the last four or five years it’s De Bruyne, 100%.’
Manchester City’s Title Defence
Manchester City will attempt to win the Premier League for the fourth year in a row next season and kick-start their title defence on August 11 against Burnley, managed by club legend Vincent Kompany.
