Marcos Alonso has ‘no intention’ of leaving Barcelona for Manchester United
Barcelona full-back Marcos Alonso has ‘no intention’ of leaving the club and is not interested in joining Manchester United. The Spaniard, 32, has been shortlisted as an option by United to solve their crisis at left-back.
Luke Shaw is set to miss up to two months of action with a muscular injury, while Tyrell Malacia is currently sidelined. Diogo Dalot deputised against Nottingham Forest but the Portuguese and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are now the only recognised and available full-backs to Erik ten Hag.
United Look for Emergency Options
That’s led United to scour the market for emergency options, and Marc Cucurella and Sergio Reguillon have been considered. Alonso has been shortlisted as another option, given Barcelona’s desperate need to raise funds.
But ESPN say the Spaniard has no interest in joining United as he wants to remain at the Camp Nou. Alonso has another year to run on his deal at the club and he would ideally like to sign an extension as he’s happy in Spain. The defender starts for Barcelona against Villarreal on Sunday night.
Alonso Wants to Stay at Barcelona
Alonso has been at Barcelona since 2016, when he joined from Fiorentina. He has made over 100 appearances for the club, helping them to win the La Liga title in 2018. He has also won two Copa del Rey trophies and a Spanish Super Cup.
The Spaniard is a reliable defender who is known for his ability to get forward and provide an attacking threat. He is also a good crosser of the ball and can provide a goal threat from set pieces.
Alonso’s decision to stay at Barcelona will come as a blow to United, who are in desperate need of a left-back. The club will now have to look elsewhere for a solution to their defensive woes.
