Manchester United Extends Contract with Joe Hugill Until 2026
Manchester United has reached an agreement with academy prospect Joe Hugill, securing his future at the club until 2026. The 20-year-old striker, who joined the Red Devils from Sunderland in 2020, has been performing impressively for the Under-18 and Under-21 sides. Although he is yet to make a senior appearance for the club, Hugill did score for the first team in a friendly against Leeds during pre-season.
Hugill has been on the fringes of Erik ten Hag’s first team and was included on the substitutes’ bench for Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup matches. Last season, he had a loan spell at National League side Altrincham, where he scored one goal.
The new contract not only extends Hugill’s stay at Old Trafford until 2026 but also includes an option for a further year. Manchester United praised Hugill’s development this season, highlighting his regular training with the first team and his presence on the bench for recent matches, including the FA Cup third-round victory at Wigan Athletic.
According to reports, Hugill is expected to join League One side Burton Albion on loan this month. Burton Albion, managed by Gary Mills, currently sits 17th in the third tier.
