Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri wanted by Watford on loan following Joao Pedro injury after finally making senior Red Devils debut

Watford are hopeful of taking Manchester United star Facundo Pellistri on loan for the rest of the campaign, according to reports.

Pellistri played a key role at the World Cup in Qatar with Uruguay, and made his United debut in the 3-0 victory over Charlton on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old came on as a second-half substitute during United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final victory at Old Trafford, replacing Anthony Elanga with six-minutes to go, and it was a long time coming for the youngster.

Pellistri joined Erik ten Hag’s side in a £9million deal from Uruguayan club Penarol in 2020, where he came through the academy, and fans have been waiting for his first appearance in the senior team.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Watford coach Slaven Bilic is keen to bring in the exciting winger to strengthen his squad, as his side target Premier League promotion.

The report claims the Hornets are on the look out for recruits following injuries to several players, including forward Joao Pedro who is sidelined following ankle ligament damage.

It is understood that Pellistri’s agent, Edgardo Lasalvia, has flown to England to try and sort out his client’s immediate future, with a loan move in the pipeline.

Pellistri has three years left on his current deal at Old Trafford, with an option for a further 12 months.

United boss Ten Hag was encouraged by Pellistri’s cameo against Charlton, having provided an assist for Marcus Rashford to score his second in the 3-0 victory.

“I see a future in him and he is doing really well and we have to see what is the best,” Ten Hag said.

“He’s progressing, also against Everton [in the behind-closed-doors game] I was really happy with his performance, I was happy with his performance in the World Cup, his progress is really good.

“He’s come on and had an effect so that’s the next step. I say well done, better, and keep going.”

Since joining United, Pellistri has had two loan spells in Spain with Alaves, where he made 35 appearances, and he also has ten senior international caps for his native Uruguay.
