Former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson believes Erik ten Hag should sign Portugal World Cup star Goncalo Ramos to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ten Hag is on the hunt for a new centre-forward this January after Ronaldo left Old Trafford following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan in November.

United have been linked with many different names, including several players who starred at Qatar 2022 including Cody Gakpo, Dusan Vlahovic and Joao Felix.

However, one interesting name that has been thrown into the mix is Ramos, who directly replaced Ronaldo during the finals to great effect.

The Portugal captain started his country’s three group games but only managed one goal from the penalty spot, with manager Fernando Santos making a big call to drop the 37-year-old for the round of 16.

21-year-old Benfica star Ramos took his place in the starting XI and scored a superb hat-trick as Portugal thrashed Switerland, though was unable to replicate this magic as they crashed out to Morocco in the quarter-finals.

Ramos was a player very few had heard of before the tournament, though he had been linked with a move to Southampton over the summer, but his performances on the international stage have now garnered interest from bigger clubs.

Kleberson, who won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil before joining United the following year, exclusively told Ladbrokes: Fanzone that Ramos would be perfect for the Red Devils.

He said: ‘They still need to find the perfect way they want to play, because since Sir Alex Ferguson left, they’ve struggled with their identity.

‘Under Ferguson, you knew exactly what you were getting, and the spine of his team was so important; a solid centre-back, a tough midfielder and a goalscorer.

‘In my opinion, it’s that last area where they need to strengthen; they need someone who can come in and get goals.

‘Even if it takes that player a little while to get used to whatever system the manager wants to play, they need a guaranteed goalscorer. Goncalo Ramos, the Portuguese kid, can be that guy.

‘He’s really young, but he’s already shown us what he’s capable of, on the biggest stage of all at the World Cup, scoring a hat-trick against Switzerland.

‘The way he plays, and how he moves and interacts with his teammates… he could be their new Cristiano Ronaldo. A move to United would be a good thing for him.’

While Ramos is valued at around £21million, Benfica have previously said they don’t plan to sell any of their players in January unless their release clause is met, with the young striker’s buyout reported to be a staggering £103m.
