Manchester United Triggers Break Clause in Sergio Reguilon’s Loan Deal
Manchester United has officially announced that they have triggered a break clause in Sergio Reguilon’s loan deal. The Spanish left-back joined United on a temporary basis in the summer due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. However, with both players nearing their returns, United has decided to send Reguilon back to his parent club, Tottenham Hotspur.
During his time at United, Reguilon made a positive contribution, fulfilling the role he was brought in for – providing cover for Shaw and Malacia while they were out with long-term injuries. Although Shaw has missed the past two games with a minor injury, he is expected to return soon. Malacia is also getting closer to a return from his knee injury.
In addition to Shaw and Malacia’s imminent comebacks, United has stated that they have adequate cover in the left-back position. The versatile Diogo Dalot can also provide further support in that role. With fewer games in the second half of the season and injured players returning, there will be less opportunity for Reguilon to play. Therefore, it was decided that it was in the best interests of all parties for him to return to Spurs.
United expressed their appreciation for Reguilon’s contribution and wished him the best for his future endeavors. The club’s official statement concluded by saying, “The 27-year-old defender leaves United with our appreciation for his contribution and best wishes for the future.”
This decision by Manchester United marks an important development in their squad management as they prepare for the remainder of the season. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
