Moises Caicedo: Man Utd Step Up Interest as Chelsea Remain Favourites
Manchester United have now officially spoken to Brighton about a possible deal for Brighton star Moises Caicedo, according to reports. The Red Devils will look to bring in the Ecuador international if a move for Chelsea star Mason Mount falls through.
United’s Interest in Caicedo
United have had three bids rejected for Mount and threatened to walk away from negotiations before making a U-turn, with more transfer talks planned. But in case a compromise can’t be reached, United have stepped up their interest in Caicedo and have spoken to Brighton about their midfielder, report talkSPORT.
Chelsea’s Interest in Caicedo
Interestingly, Chelsea are heavily linked with a move for Caicedo – and remain the favourites to land his signature – as United plot to ‘disrupt’ the deal. Chelsea are believed to be close to agreeing personal terms with Caicedo and are set to open talks with Brighton in the next 24 hours ahead of a second bid as the clubs look to agree a fee.
Brighton’s Asking Price
Brighton rejected Chelsea’s opening offer of around £60m and it was thought that the Seagulls were looking for a buyer to match whatever price Declan Rice sells for. But it is now thought that £80m could be enough to convince Brighton into a sale with Chelsea the front-runners and United possibly looking to hijack the deal if they cannot bring in Mount.
Caicedo’s Performance at Brighton
Caicedo has just enjoyed a fantastic season at Brighton, helping them finish sixth and secure a spot in the Europa League. The 21-year-old, who was close to moving to Arsenal in the January window, has made 53 appearances for the south coast club since moving to England in 2021.
