Manchester United Eyeing Bruno Petkovic Amid Striker Hunt Struggles
Manchester United’s search for a striker has taken an unexpected turn as they reportedly set their sights on Dinamo Zagreb’s Bruno Petkovic. The 29-year-old Croatian forward has caught the attention of the Red Devils, who are looking for reinforcements in attack.
Rasmus Hojlund, United’s £72m signing from last summer, has been performing well and recently broke a Premier League record by scoring in six consecutive games. However, his recent injury has left a void in the team, emphasizing the need for additional options up front.
According to reports from Index.hr, United scouts have been monitoring Petkovic’s performances and are considering a potential swoop for him this summer. The Croatian international is under contract with Dinamo Zagreb until 2025, but the club may be willing to sell him for a bargain price of just £4.28m to avoid losing him for free next year.
Although no contact has been made between the two clubs yet, Dinamo Zagreb is aware of United’s interest. Petkovic joined Dinamo in 2019 after stints at Bologna and Hellas Verona in Italy. Since then, he has scored 45 goals in 137 appearances in the top-flight, including nine goals and three assists this season.
Furthermore, Petkovic has impressed in the Europa League, where he is currently the competition’s second top scorer with seven goals. He also made a mark on the international stage during the 2022 World Cup, finding the back of the net against Brazil in the quarter-finals.
With 10 goals in 34 caps for Croatia, Petkovic brings valuable experience and a proven goal-scoring ability. Manchester United will be hoping that he can provide the necessary firepower alongside Hojlund and help them achieve their ambitions in domestic and European competitions.
As of now, the talks between the two clubs are yet to commence, but United’s interest in Petkovic shows their determination to bolster their attacking options. With the striker hunt struggles continuing, fans will be eagerly waiting to see if Petkovic becomes the next addition to the United squad.
In the meantime, United will focus on their upcoming FA Cup clash against Liverpool, where they hope Hojlund’s return will boost their chances of progressing in the tournament. The Red Devils will be eager to secure silverware this season and strengthen their squad to compete at the highest level.
