Manchester United Receive £30m Bid for Mason Greenwood: Transfer Update

Date:

Lazio’s Pursuit of Mason Greenwood

Lazio, the Serie A club, has made a bold move to secure the services of Mason Greenwood from Manchester United. Reports suggest that they have tabled a £30 million bid for the talented forward, who recently completed a loan spell at Getafe. United, in turn, seem willing to part ways with Greenwood permanently during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Greenwood’s Troubled Past and Potential Suitors

The 22-year-old’s career hit a roadblock when he faced serious allegations in January 2022, including attempted rape, controlling behavior, and assault. While all charges against him were dropped in February 2023, the incident has cast a shadow over his future at Old Trafford. Despite initial interest from Juventus in a £40 million deal, the Italian giants are now reconsidering their pursuit due to concerns raised by their supporters regarding Greenwood’s past.

Lazio’s Persistence and United’s Stance

Lazio’s interest in Greenwood is not new, as they had previously attempted to secure him on loan last summer. However, the deal fell through due to paperwork issues on United’s end. Now, with a fresh £30 million offer on the table, Lazio is eager to bring Greenwood to Serie A. United, on the other hand, is holding out for a fee closer to £40 million, given the player’s potential and market value.

Financial Considerations and Squad Overhaul

With Greenwood having just a year left on his contract, United sees this as an opportunity to offload him and boost their transfer budget. The club is reportedly starting with a budget of around £35 million for new signings this summer, with additional funds expected from player sales. Apart from Greenwood, the likes of Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, and Donny van de Beek are also rumored to be departing Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window.

Looking Ahead

As the summer transfer window approaches, the future of Mason Greenwood remains uncertain. Lazio’s pursuit, coupled with United’s financial considerations and squad overhaul plans, sets the stage for a potentially significant transfer saga. Whether Greenwood will make the move to Serie A or stay put at Manchester United remains to be seen. For more updates on this developing story and other transfer news, stay tuned to our sports page.
