Marseille defender Eric Bailly was sent off for an ‘enormous’ boot to the chest with the challenge putting his opponent in an ambulance.
On loan from Manchester United, Bailly lasted just 15 minutes of the Coupe de France tie against Hyeres after planting his studs into Moussa N’Diaye’s ribs.
Referee Jeremy Stinat took no time at all in pulling out the red card, and it quickly became clear that N’Diaye was in trouble.
After laying on the ground for ‘several minutes’ according to RMC Sport, the former Barcelona youngster was transported to an ambulance and taken to hospital for further care.
The outlet called it an ‘enormous foul’ which left the Ligue 1 side with ten men for the remainder of the game.
Thankfully for Marseille, former Arsenal and United man Alexis Sanchez put them ahead with a Panenka penalty to avoid an upset against their fourth-tier opponents.
The match finished 2-0 with Bamba Dieng scoring the other goal.
Bailey joined United in 2016 from Spanish side Villarreal in a deal worth £30million, sanctioned by manager Jose Mourinho.
After being a regular in his first season at Old Trafford, the centre-back quickly became a bit-part player, leaving on loan last summer.
It’s unlikely the Ivory Coast international will be back any time soon, after failing to land a spot under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag.
In 2021, Bailly signed a new contract to keep him at United until 2024.
But he’s since become a more important player at Marseille with 11 appearances under his belt this season.
