Manchester United is one of the most successful teams in the history of the FA Cup, having won the trophy 12 times. This makes them the second most successful team in the competition, behind Arsenal with 14 victories. Five of these 12 titles were won under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, with the first arriving in 1990 and the last in 2004. However, United have also lost eight finals in the past, including most recently in 2018 against Chelsea. Their total of 20 appearances is bettered only by Arsenal with 21. The last time Manchester United won the FA Cup was in 2016 with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Wembley. Despite the FA Cup triumph, Louis van Gaal was sacked as manager just two days later following an otherwise disappointing spell in the Old Trafford hot seat. The win seven years ago is the only time the club have won the FA Cup at the new Wembley stadium, with their previous successes having arrived at the old Wembley and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
