The 22-year-old quickly established himself as a key part of Erik ten Hag’s Ajax side after joining from Brazilian club Sao Paulo in 2020.
Last season, Antony scored 12 goals and registered 10 assists in 33 games as Ajax won the Eredivisie title.
Ten Hag has made Anthony one of his top attacking targets for the summer window and according to The Sun, United have stepped up their efforts to secure a deal for the winger.
The report claims that members of United’s hierarchy have travelled to Amsterdam on Tuesday in an attempt to complete a £40m move for Antony.
The Brazilian is now in line to become Ten Hag’s first major signing of his reign at United.
In his video message to Ten Hag following his departure to United, Antony told his former manager: ‘I want to wish you all the best at your new club.
‘I also want to thank you for everything you taught me. I am thankful all the opportunities and learning every day.
‘Know that I will always stand with you if you need me.’
Meanwhile, Ten Hag has already admitted that Ajax would struggle to replace Antony if he is sold this summer.
‘If Antony were to go, it would be a loss for Ajax,’ Ten Hag said last month.
‘You have no-one in the current squad who can take over his position. He is top class.’
