Manchester United Assistant Nears Departure for MLS Position
Manchester United assistant coach Eric Ramsay is on the verge of leaving the club to become the manager of Minnesota United, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team. Although the deal has not been finalized, it is expected to be completed soon, marking Ramsay’s first role as a manager. At just 32 years old, Ramsay has already gained experience in various clubs, including Swansea City, Shrewsbury Town, Chelsea, and most recently, Manchester United.
Ramsay joined Manchester United in 2021 under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He quickly became an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff when the Dutchman took charge. Ramsay’s rise in the coaching world has been remarkable, and it is now taking him across the Atlantic to the United States. If the move goes through, he will become the second youngest manager in MLS history, with Roy Wegerle holding the record when he managed the Colorado Rapids.
The young coach has received high praise from colleagues and former teammates. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Darren Fletcher, both associated with Manchester United, have spoken highly of Ramsay’s abilities. However, it was a former colleague, Sam Ricketts, who highlighted a unique aspect of Ramsay’s coaching style. Ricketts revealed that Ramsay possesses an incredibly loud whistle, which he uses effectively during training sessions to grab attention and make quick points. Ricketts described Ramsay as a well-rounded individual who is detail-oriented and attentive in everything he does.
Ramsay’s ability to switch between intensity and calmness during training sessions sets him apart from other coaches. His powerful whistle captures the attention of players and aids in maintaining focus. Ricketts humorously compared Ramsay’s whistle to that of a shepherd controlling a sheepdog from a distance.
With his move to Minnesota United, Ramsay is embarking on an exciting new chapter in his coaching career. His journey from working in youth ranks to becoming a manager at such a young age is a testament to his talent and dedication. As Ramsay prepares to make his mark in MLS, fans and colleagues will be eager to see how his coaching style and unique whistle technique translate to success on the field.
