Manchester United and Arsenal will compete to sign ‘fantastic’ Portugal star Goncalo Ramos after his impressive World Cup campaign.

That’s according to Sven-Goran Eriksson, who believes the Benfica star is ‘destined’ to move to the Premier League.

Ramos, 21, came through Benfica’s academy and enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season by scoring eight goals in 46 appearances.

However, his progress has been even more rapid this season, with Ramos taking up the challenge of replacing Darwin Nunez following his £80m move to Liverpool.

Ramos has netted 15 times in 24 appearances for Benfica this season and he was already being linked with a move to England before the World Cup.

But it was in Qatar that Ramos stepped up to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who was dropped in favour of the striker for the last-16 clash against Switzerland.

Ramos took his chance, scoring a hat-trick in a 6-1 win and keeping his place for the quarter-final defeat to Morocco.

And former Benfica boss Eriksson says it’s inevitable that United and Arsenal will both compete for Ramos this summer.

‘Arsenal and Manchester United will look at Goncalo Ramos as an option,’ Eriksson told OLBG.

‘Goncalo Ramos is a fantastic player, it’s not easy to replace Cristiano Ronaldo like he did. He will end up in the Premier League like a lot of Portuguese players, he can adapt there.

‘If he wants to go to England, he’ll want to go to a big club. I’m sure that clubs like Arsenal or Manchester United will look out for him.

‘He’s a player destined for the Premier League because it’s the best league in the world and the best want to play there.’
