Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Cardiff City wonderkid Gabriele Biancheri.

The 16-year-old has completed a medical with the Red Devils and will sign scholarship terms with United, before signing professional terms on his 17th birthday.

The forward, who is eligible for Wales, England and Italy, attracted attention from Chelsea last summer.

But United have won the race for his signature and the appointment of former Cardiff academy chief David Hughes last year has clearly aided the club’s pursuit of the teenager.

Biancheri has already made his U18s debut for Cardiff and has seven goals in 12 matches for the academy this term.

The teenager’s already played for Wales at youth level but England and Italy are keeping a close eye on his development.

United signed Wout Weghorst earlier this month to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who had his contract terminated in late November.

Erik ten Hag remains keen to strengthen his squad, particularly in creative areas.

United are sweating on the scan results for Christian Eriksen, who suffered an ankle injury in the FA Cup win against Reading on Saturday.
