Manchester City, Arsenal Win Premier League

Manchester City have taken control of the Premier League title race with a 4-1 win over rivals Arsenal at the Etihad. With Arsenal still sat at the top of the table, few would now bet against Manchester City going on to lift their third successive title when the competition ends next month. City are on 73 points with two games in hand, while Arsenal have 75 points with five games still left to play. In order for City to win the title, they must win all of their remaining fixtures, which would leave them on 94 points and unassailable for Arsenal even if the Gunners win all of their games between now and the end of the season. If City were to drop four points and Arsenal max out on wins, then goal difference would be used to determine the winner. City’s goal difference is currently 52, while Arsenal’s is 41. For Arsenal to have any chance of lifting the title, they must ensure they win all of their outstanding fixtures between now and the end of the season. However, with a trip to Champions League-chasing Newcastle and a difficult-looking home clash with Roberto De Zerbi’s high-flying Brighton, Arsenal will have a difficult task in hitting 90 points to pile the pressure on their title rivals. Their only hope is to perform as best they can, get the wins, and hope that Man City drop points across the final weeks of the season.
