Harry Maguire’s Move to West Ham United on the Brink of Collapse
Harry Maguire’s move to West Ham United is on the brink of collapse, with the defender’s transfer to the London Stadium now looking ‘unlikely’. Manchester United accepted a £30million fee for the defender last week, and gave permission for him to travel to the capital for a medical.
David Moyes is desperate to complete the deal but Maguire will have to take a large paycut to join the Hammers and he reportedly wants United to pay up the rest of his two-year deal. The 30-year-old is therefore minded to stay at Old Trafford and West Ham are ready to walk away from the deal, as time is running out for them to strengthen their squad.
Manchester United Prepare to Sign a Replacement for Maguire
United had already prepared to sign a replacement for Maguire by bidding for Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard. Though Erik ten Hag has publicly said he’s happy to keep Maguire, he privately concedes the defender’s time at the club is at an end. But Maguire has two years left on his £200,000-a-week deal and he hasn’t received an offer that has convinced him to leave the Theatre of Dreams.
Maguire was an unused substitute in United’s 1-0 win against Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday. He was named in the matchday squad but watched on at half-time as Ten Hag turned to Victor Lindelof to replace Lisandro Martinez.
What Does the Future Hold for Harry Maguire?
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Harry Maguire. With West Ham’s move looking unlikely, it looks like he may stay at Manchester United for the foreseeable future. However, if a suitable offer comes in, it could be that he moves on from Old Trafford. Either way, it looks like it will be an interesting few weeks ahead for Maguire and Manchester United.
