Erik ten Hag is confident Marcus Rashford will remain at Manchester United beyond next year and believes contract negotiations will ramp up once the season has concluded. The 25-year-old has had an excellent campaign this season, leading the club’s scoring charts with 16 goals in 33 appearances, as well as laying on five assists. When asked about the England international’s future, Ten Hag replied: ‘Marcus wants to stay. We want him to stay. So, I think we will find each other.’ He went on to explain that the situation will be addressed as soon as the season is over, adding: ‘This moment for me is not important. Also, for Rashy, not important. For him it is [important] to be getting more goals in this season. He is playing a wonderful season. The team is playing a wonderful season. Now, we have to get in the Champions League. We have to focus on that.’
Rashford is a doubt for United’s clash with Bournemouth on Saturday after picking up an illness just days after returning from injury. Meanwhile, the club confirmed on Friday that Phil Jones would be leaving after 12 years when his contract expires at the end of the season. When asked if he’d actually seen the defender train, the Dutchman explained: ‘Yes, 20 minutes, first training of the year! He has had a great career, what he achieved. Winning the Premier League, winning the FA Cup, winning Europa League, being present at two World Cups. Massive career at Man United. All the credits for his career.’
