Noam Emeran Scores First Manchester United Goal in 2-0 Win Over Leeds
Manchester United’s Noam Emeran made a name for himself on Wednesday with a goal in a 2-0 friendly win over Leeds in Oslo, Norway. The 20-year-old French forward came off the bench at half-time and scored the first goal of the game in the 67th minute.
The match saw a number of recognisable first team players start the game, including Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount, Rafael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. Joe Hugill scored the Red Devils’ second and final goal.
Emeran arrived from Amiens in 2019 and has yet to be given a first team opportunity at Manchester United, but his performance in Oslo may have caught the eye of Erik ten Hag and could bring more opportunities and goals.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, Emeran said: “It’s always a proud moment for me to wear the shirt and play for this club in a big stadium like this. Of course I’m happy and proud that I scored a goal, for my family as well. I just have to keep going, the first of many.”
He also praised his teammate Hugill for his goal, saying: “It was important for the team and for the coach as it was our first game of the year so we wanted to play good, respect the tactics and the rules of the coach. Yeah, of course, it was a good goal for him [Hugill]. I’m happy for him to score. We represent the academy so it’s nice.”
The game was played at the Ullevaal Stadion, home of the Norway national team and Emeran was pleased to get to play in the 28,000-capacity ground, hoping for more chances as the summer goes on.
“It’s very nice, we are here to take experience so it’s nice to play in a full stadium, to play in front of fans. It’s a good feeling to play in a stadium like this,” he said. “I don’t have a personal target, I just want to play as many minutes as I can.”
Noam Emeran is now hoping that his goal against Leeds will be the first of many for Manchester United and that he will be given more opportunities in the future. With his impressive performance on Wednesday, it looks like he could be well on his way to becoming a regular fixture in the Red Devils’ lineup.
