Tom Heaton Already Learning From Manchester United’s New Signing Andre Onana
Andre Onana has already made an impression on his new Manchester United team-mates since joining from Inter Milan last week. The Cameroonian completed a £44million move to Old Trafford and linked up with his new team-mates in the United States on the same day. Though Onana was unable to make his debut against Arsenal on Saturday, he’s had several training sessions with his new team-mates.
The driving force behind Erik ten Hag’s decision to replace David De Gea with Onana was the Cameroonian’s ability with the ball at his feet. And Tom Heaton, the Red Devils’ goalkeeper, says he’s already learning from Onana, who does things ‘differently’ than he’s ever seen before.
Onana’s Impressive Ability With The Ball At His Feet
Onana is known for his impressive ability with the ball at his feet, something that Heaton has already noticed. ‘I can see already how he’s going to fit into the manager’s style. He looks really good with his feet and I am already picking up a little bit up about how he does things slightly differently to what I’ve seen before,’ said Heaton.
Heaton also noted that Onana is ‘different’ to other goalkeepers. ‘In the Premier League we’ve got Ederson and Alisson and they’ve changed that goalkeeping side a little bit. Most teams play that way now. Onana has come in to us now. Time will tell. I think Pep said it was difficult for them to get on a high press on with him playing like that. I was really impressed with him in that game and I’m looking forward to working with him, competing with him and we’ll see how it plays out.’
Adapting To Ten Hag’s Style Of Play
Heaton is looking forward to working with Onana and adapting to Ten Hag’s style of play. ‘I think the way he wants to play we’re all adapting to a bit. We were last season and this season and this season he wants to take it on again,” he said.
‘It’s been good. We want to build from the back. If that’s not on one of the options is going longer.’
Conclusion
It seems that Onana is already impressing his new team-mates at Manchester United and Tom Heaton is looking forward to learning from him. Onana’s ability with the ball at his feet is something that Heaton has noticed and he is looking forward to adapting to Ten Hag’s style of play. Only time will tell how well Onana will fit in at Manchester United, but it seems he is already making an impression.
