Hannibal Mejbri Joins Sevilla on Loan from Manchester United
Hannibal Mejbri has officially joined Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the season, as confirmed by Manchester United on Monday. The 20-year-old midfielder will have the opportunity to play in La Liga under the guidance of Sevilla boss Quique Sanchez Flores.
Opportunity for Hannibal Mejbri to Shine
With limited opportunities at Old Trafford this season, it was expected that Hannibal Mejbri would go out on loan during the January transfer window. Despite a late enquiry from Everton, Sevilla emerged as the frontrunners for his signature, with both Manchester United and the player himself preferring a move to Spain.
The loan deal is believed to include an option for Sevilla to buy Mejbri, potentially bringing an end to his time with the Red Devils. However, there is also a buy-back clause inserted by Manchester United, indicating the possibility of a future return to Old Trafford.
Manchester United Statement
In an official statement on the Manchester United website, the club announced, “Manchester United midfielder Hannibal has joined Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. The Tunisia international will ply his trade in La Liga after securing a switch to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.”
Sevilla currently sits 17th in the La Liga table, just one place above the relegation zone. Mejbri will hope to contribute to the team’s climb up the standings. Former Manchester United player Adnan Januzaj is also part of Sevilla’s squad.
Hannibal Mejbri joined Manchester United’s youth ranks from Monaco in 2019. He made his Premier League debut in the 2020/21 season and impressed with his skills and tenacity. A loan spell with Birmingham City in the Championship further enhanced his experience.
Since returning to Manchester, Mejbri has made several appearances for the first team across various competitions, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, Carabao Cup, and Emirates FA Cup. He recently featured in the FA Cup third-round win against Wigan Athletic.
With his move to Sevilla, Mejbri will look to secure regular game time and continue his development in Spain. Manchester United wishes him the best of luck in his loan spell.
