Amad Diallo leaves MetLife Stadium on crutches after Manchester United win over Arsenal
Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey ended in a 2-0 win for the Red Devils, but the victory was marred by an injury to 21-year-old winger Amad Diallo.
Diallo, who joined United from Atalanta in January, came on at half-time for Antony but had to be replaced just 15 minutes later after suffering an ankle problem.
The Ivory Coast international was seen leaving the stadium on crutches with his left ankle strapped up, and the extent of the injury is not yet known.
Impressive loan spell at Sunderland
Diallo had been hoping to get more first team opportunities with the Red Devils this season after an impressive loan spell at Sunderland last season.
However, this injury setback could put a dampener on his pre-season preparations and his hopes of making an impact in the first team.
United have a busy pre-season schedule ahead of them, with matches against Wrexham, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lens and Athletic Bilbao before the Premier League campaign gets underway against Wolves on 14 August.
Encouraging run out for United
The Diallo injury was a disappointment for manager Erik ten Hag, but it was otherwise an encouraging run out for his team against the Gunners.
Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho scored the goals in a 2-0 win as both sides showed off new signings.
Mason Mount started in midfield for United, alongside impressive youngster Kobbie Mainoo, while Arsenal started with Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.
