Erik ten Hag Keen to Welcome Mason Mount to Manchester United
Manchester United are set to submit a final take-it-or-leave-it offer for Chelsea star Mason Mount. The Red Devils have already made two unsuccessful offers for the England midfielder worth between £40m and £50m, but manager Erik ten Hag is keen to welcome Mount to Old Trafford. According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United’s final offer for Mount will be worth more than £55m, with Chelsea said to be looking for around £70m.
Mount Open to Move Away From Chelsea
Mount is open to the move as he feels the time is right to end his 18-year association with Chelsea. The midfielder has played 195 games for the Blues since breaking into the first team in 2019 and earned 36 caps for England. While Mount underwhelmed last season, he was one of Chelsea’s best players the year before and one of the first names on the team-sheet for England.
Chelsea Ready to Sell Mount But Want at Least £70m
Chelsea are ready to sell Mount but want at least £70m for their academy graduate. The Old Trafford hierarchy – including Ten Hag – rate Mount highly, but they believe £55m represents a fair price for a player entering the final 12 months of his contract. Former Arsenal and England star Paul Merson cannot understand why Chelsea could sell him this summer – especially to a Premier League rival.
Manchester United’s Final Offer
If Manchester United’s final offer is rejected, they are expected to end their pursuit of Mount and turn to alternative targets as they do not think the £70m valuation is realistic. Mauricio Pochettino takes over at Chelsea next week and it remains to be seen if he will be willing to part with Mount for less than the Blues’ asking price. Either way, it looks like Mount’s future will be decided soon.
