Man Utd Offered World Cup Star Sofyan Amrabat, Agent Hints at Summer Move

Date:

Sofyan Amrabat, the Moroccan midfielder who played a key role in his country’s historic World Cup run, has reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United. According to his agent, Mohammed Sinouh, the Red Devils made an offer for Amrabat during the January transfer window, but negotiations were not completed at the time. The 26-year-old has been a standout performer for Fiorentina this season, but his agent has opened the door to a potential move away from the Italian club this summer.

Amrabat started all seven of Morocco’s World Cup games as they reached the semi-finals, beating Spain and Portugal along the way before being eliminated by eventual runners-up France. His performances caught the attention of a number of clubs, including Chelsea, who were interested in signing him on loan towards the end of the transfer window. However, Manchester United were also in the mix, with Erik ten Hag keen to bolster his midfield options after losing Christian Eriksen to injury.

Despite spending more than £100m on Enzo Fernandez in January, Chelsea were still keen on Amrabat, but it seems United were more serious about making a move for the player. While negotiations did not come to fruition during the winter transfer window, Amrabat’s agent has suggested that a move could still happen this summer if Fiorentina receive a suitable offer.

“At the moment, we don’t have any offers for the exit of Sofyan Amrabat,” Sinouh said. “But Fiorentina welcomes the player’s departure in the summer, especially after obtaining a promise from the club president to do so when he rejected the offers in the winter transfer period.”

Amrabat has been a key player for Fiorentina since joining from Club Brugge in 2020, making close to 100 appearances for the Italian club. However, with Fiorentina currently ninth in Serie A and eight points outside the European places, they may be willing to let him go if the price is right.

For Manchester United, Amrabat could be a useful addition to their midfield, providing energy and creativity alongside the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba. While Marcel Sabitzer was signed on loan from Bayern Munich in January, there is no guarantee that he will stay beyond the end of the season, leaving a potential gap in the squad that Amrabat could fill.

It remains to be seen whether United will make another move for Amrabat this summer, but with his agent suggesting that a move away from Fiorentina is possible, it could be a transfer worth keeping an eye on.
