Manchester United are reportedly considering sending Mason Greenwood out on loan for the entirety of next season. The 21-year-old has not played for the club since January last year, after he was arrested and charged with attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault. All charges were dropped in February this year, with the Crown Prosecution Service citing the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light. United announced they would conduct their own process before determining next steps for Greenwood’s future at Old Trafford.
According to MailOnline, the internal investigation is ongoing, and a move to another Premier League club is highly unlikely. Potential destinations could be Italy, Spain or Turkey. Greenwood still has two years remaining on his £75,000-a-week contract with United and has indicated his desire to return to the first-team squad. However, United decided in March that he would not be allowed back until this summer at the earliest. A loan move outside of England would give United more time to assess their options regarding Greenwood’s long-term future at Old Trafford.
