Manchester United Set to Sign Ecuadorian Midfield Talent Oscar Zambrano
Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing Ecuadorian midfield talent Oscar Zambrano, hoping to avoid repeating past mistakes after missing out on Moises Caicedo three years ago. In December 2020, United held talks to sign Caicedo but eventually backed out due to complications with third-party intermediaries. Brighton ended up signing him for just £4.5 million in January 2021, and he has since become one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League, joining Chelsea for a British-record fee of £115 million.
Now, United is monitoring another young talent in Zambrano, who currently plays for LDU Quito in the Ecuadorian top flight. Luton Town has also been keeping an eye on the 19-year-old. However, United and Brighton have now shown interest in bringing him to England during the January transfer window.
Luton has already made an offer for Zambrano, but his club has decided to wait for other bids due to the emerging interest from United and Brighton. United sees Zambrano as “the new Caicedo” and believes he possesses similar characteristics to the Chelsea star. They are determined not to miss out on another prized talent from South America.
While major additions to the squad are unlikely in the January transfer market, United is keen on bringing in another striker to ease the pressure on Rasmus Hojlund. They have reportedly enquired about the availability of former Chelsea forward Timo Werner and are also considering Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Thomas Muller, as well as Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy.
