Aaron Wan-Bissaka closing in on Manchester United return after hamstring injury

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is closing in on a return to full fitness and could be back in the team within the next 10 days, according to reports.

The right-back has been out of action since the middle of September after sustaining a hamstring injury in the closing stages of United’s defeat to Brighton after being subbed on late in the game.

With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia injured, and Sergio Reguilon also struggling for fitness, Wan-Bissaka’s absence has been keenly felt by manager Erik ten Hag – with midfielder Sofyan Amrabat even required to fill in at full-back.

Wan-Bissaka Resumes Training

But United may not have to wait long for Wan-Bissaka to return to the line-up, which would then allow Diogo Dalot to play at left-back until Shaw is back.

According to the Daily Mail, the 25-year-old has resumed training on the grass at Carrington and is nearing a return.

The hope is that he will be back up to speed and available within the next 10 days if the final stages of his rehabilitation go according to plan.

Return Date Uncertain

There were even suggestions he might be back in time to face Manchester City in Sunday’s derby, but he is unlikely to be risked – particularly with a packed fixture list on the horizon.

United are next in action after that against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, which Wan-Bissaka could feature in, though a trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham on Saturday 4 November could be the most likely return date.

After that, United then travel to Copenhagen in the Champions League, host Luton Town in the Premier League and travel to Goodison Park to face Everton before the next international break.

Ten Hag Delighted

Ten Hag will be delighted to have Wan-Bissaka back among his defensive options, with the former Crystal Palace man having excelled recently despite early reservations over his suitability to the Dutch manager’s football.

Asked about the status of Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw last week, Ten Hag said: ‘Of course, they are closer [to a comeback]. But so, for instance, Luke Shaw, I don’t expect him back in this block of games.

‘For instance, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, I don’t think he’s too far away from returning into team training and so back in the team.’
