Man Utd Fans Panic and Ask: Can Cult Hero Solve Centre Back Crisis in FA Cup Semi-Final?

Date:

Manchester United fans are concerned about how manager Erik ten Hag will address the club’s centre-back crisis for the upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Brighton. The two teams are set to meet at Wembley on April 23, but United may be limited in their options for the heart of their defence.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane both sustained injuries during a recent Europa League match against Sevilla, which could rule them out of the upcoming tie. Additionally, club captain Harry Maguire is suspended for the semi-final, while Luke Shaw is still recovering from an injury.

This leaves Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones as the only available centre-backs for the match. Jones has been sidelined for much of the past few seasons due to injury and falling down the pecking order, and has not played for the club this season.

Fans have taken to social media to discuss the situation, with some suggesting that Jones should be given a chance to play. Others have suggested that Scott McTominay or Casemiro could be used as makeshift defenders.

Ten Hag has previously explained that Jones has been unavailable for the entire season due to injury, and it is unclear whether he will be able to play again this season.

The FA Cup semi-final is a crucial match for Manchester United, who are looking to win their first major trophy since 2017. The club is currently second in the Premier League table, behind rivals Manchester City.
