Manchester United Enquire Into Availability of Rico Henry Ahead of Transfer Deadline Day

Manchester United have enquired into the availability of Rico Henry after adding the Brentford star to their list of left-back targets ahead of transfer deadline day on Friday.

Luke Shaw has been sidelined until November due to a muscle injury and with Tyrell Malacia also still ruled out, United are hoping to bring in another option this week.

United’s Left-Back Targets

Marc Cucurella, Sergio Reguilon and Marcos Alonso are three options under consideration at Old Trafford but the Daily Mail report Henry is also a target.

The 26-year-old, who is hoping to earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad this week has been an integral member of Thomas Frank’s starting XI, starting all but one of the Bees’ 38 league games last season. He has also completed the full 90 minutes in each of Brentford’s three league games this term.

United would likely face an uphill task in prising Henry away from Brentford at this stage of the transfer window with the club also restricted by a tight transfer budget having spent £175m this summer on Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund.

United Explore Move for Cucurella

United are also exploring a move for Chelsea left-back Cucurella, just a year on from his £60m move from Brighton. The Spaniard endured a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge and has not featured under Mauricio Pochettino this term with Ben Chilwell the club’s first-choice option.

Tottenham’s Reguilon is another option with Spurs ready to listen to offers for the player who was shipped out on loan last summer. Former Chelsea star Alonso is another target although reports suggest he is committed to Barcelona and is not looking for another move just a year on from his return to Spain.

Diogo Dalot Shifts to Left-Back Role

With both Shaw and Malacia unavailable, Diogo Dalot shifted over to a left-back role as United came from behind to beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Having also allowed Brandon Williams to join Ipswich on loan, viable options on the left are in short supply. 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez was an unused substitute against Forest but will hope to force his way into the side after an impressive loan spell at Preston last season.

Conclusion

Manchester United have enquired into the availability of Rico Henry as they look to bring in another left-back option before the transfer window closes on Friday. With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both ruled out, United are exploring a move for Henry, Marc Cucurella, Sergio Reguilon and Marcos Alonso. However, Henry is unlikely to be prised away from Brentford at this stage of the window and United may have to turn their attention elsewhere.
