Manchester United Confident of Signing Rasmus Hojlund Despite PSG’s Offer
Manchester United are confident of securing the signing of Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund, despite an opening offer from Paris Saint-Germain. The 20-year-old is the top choice for United manager Erik ten Hag this summer, and the club has already agreed on personal terms with the player for a five-year deal at Old Trafford.
United’s pursuit of Hojlund comes after they made it clear to Tottenham Hotspur that they would not sell Harry Kane to a Premier League rival. With personal terms agreed upon, United is now focused on finalizing the transfer deal with Atalanta, the player’s current club.
However, United is facing financial constraints due to Financial Fair Play regulations. The club has already spent £100m on the signings of Andre Onana and Mason Mount this summer. As a result, their opening bid of £42m, with an additional £8.5m in add-ons, was rejected by Atalanta.
Despite United’s initial bid being turned down, they have not yet submitted a second offer, which has given Paris Saint-Germain an opportunity to enter the race for Hojlund. The French club is in need of reinforcements following the departure of Lionel Messi and the likely departure of Kylian Mbappe. PSG submitted a bid for Hojlund, but it was rejected as it was lower than United’s offer.
Nevertheless, Manchester United remains confident in their pursuit of Hojlund. According to the BBC, the club believes they can secure the signing before their first game of the season against Wolves on August 14th.
Hojlund may not have an extensive goal-scoring record, having managed just nine goals last season. However, Ten Hag believes he can develop the young striker into one of the best forwards in Europe. Standing at 6ft2, Hojlund possesses mobility, strength, and speed, making him an attractive prospect for United.
